EPOCH 8 was a Muirhouse based open space run collectively by local contemporary art practice students. Its aim was to connect with the surrounding community by creating an inclusive platform which could empower the community by providing access to the arts as a means of expression and communication.
EPOCH 8 Gallery was hosted in Interview Room 11, on Pennywell Road in Muirhouse. The project was devised and led by then artist in residence at Edinburgh College, Rachael Simpson. The initiative was led by a committee of 8 students with a 'learning as we go' ethos to support professional practice and development of real-life experience and insight in how to run, organise, programme, curate and fund artist run spaces, as well as build connections with other artists, create professional opportunities and engage with the community.
